Ex-world champion cyclist tests positive
ATHENS,
AUG. 10.
The 1998 world road race champion Oscar Camenzind has tested positive for a banned performance-enhancing drug and will not compete at the Athens Games, the Swiss Olympic Association said.
The Swiss cyclist agreed to withdraw from the Games, which starts on Friday, after being notified of the result of his test, the association said in a statement.
His Swiss professional team, Phonak, reacted by firing the rider, whose career now looks under threat. Phonak manager Urs Freuler said Camenzind had accepted full responsibility for the positive test.
