BANGALORE, AUG. 10. The Government plans to organise global investors' meets in Mysore, Hassan, Hubli and Gulbarga to promote industrial development and attract foreign investment. Announcing this at a press conference here on Monday, the Industries Minister, P.G.R. Sindhia, reassured industry that the schemes launched by the previous Government for its development would be continued. The Government wanted to promote information technology in other centres of the State. On the reported lack of interest on the part of the Government in the further development of Bangalore, Mr. Sindhia said there would be no let-up in the efforts to strengthen infrastructure in the city. He would tour all the districts during August and September. He would visit Hassan on August 17 where a global investors' meet would be held. A meet in Mysore would be held during the Dasara festival. Denying that there was no follow up by the Government after the global and coastal investors' meets, the Minister, however, admitted that there was no action for 60 days in this regard after the coalition Government came to power. There was displeasure over the delay in giving power connection and in land acquisition. He would focus on such aspects now, he said. Mr. Sindhia did not agree that defective handling of seat-sharing in professional colleges, increase in tax on IT products, and lack of funds for infrastructure development would lead to flight of capital. On the imbroglio over admissions to professional colleges, he said the Government was not perturbed over the denial of seats to non-Karnataka students forcing them to go to neighbouring States. The Government was committed to helping students from the State.
