An occasion to recollect their past

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, AUG. 10. They exchanged greetings among themselves and were found moving in groups recollecting their past, talking about the present and the future.

The event was a tea party hosted here on Monday by the Governor, T.N. Chaturvedi, in honour of freedom fighters to mark the anniversary of Quit India Day.

Disappointed

Some of them were disappointed as they could not find their colleagues in the freedom struggle among those present. One among them was B.M. Anjanappa (90), who came to the party with his son. "I expected K.K. Bhasyam and Siddayya here, but learnt that they are no more," he said.

Welcome

The Glass House at the Raj Bhavan was spruced up for the occasion.

There were two groups of bands — one with western musical instruments and the other with traditional instruments such as tabala and dolak — that welcomed them. Traditional food was served by men dressed in "white" suits.

The function was attended by the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh; the Deputy Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah; the Union Minister of State for Planning, M.V. Rajashekaran; and the acting Chairman of the Legislative Council, V.R. Sudhershan.

Prominent among the freedom fighters present were V.S. Krishna Iyer and Haranahalli Ramaswamy.
