Dilhara for Champions Trophy

COLOMBO, AUG. 10. Sri Lanka cricket selectors on Tuesday added fast bowler Dilhara Fernando to the squad for the Champions Trophy in England next month, a cricket official said.

The team now has seven specialist batsmen, two all-rounders, four fast bowlers and one spinner, cricket board spokesman, Ray Illangakoon said.

Dilhara, the fastest bowler Sri Lanka ever had with a recorded speed of 144 kmph, has been plagued by back injuries since he played for the country four years ago.

Sri Lanka is drawn in Pool 4 of the competition with host England and Zimbabwe.

Sri Lanka's first match is on September 14 against Zimbabwe at the Oval and the second on September 17 against England at Rose Bowl (Southampton). — AP
