Kozhikode regains title

KOZHIKODE, AUG. 10. Host Kozhikode regained the women's title after eight long years in the State senior inter-district badminton championship, shocking holder Thrissur 2-0 in the final at the V.K. Krishna Menon Indoor Stadium here on Tuesday. Riding on the brilliance of National junior No. 1 Aparna Balan, the host triumphed without dropping a single game.

Meanwhile, Ernakulam made it a hat-trick in the men's competition, when it blanked Thiruvananthapuram 3-0. K.A. Aneesh, Alfred and Deepak Amarnath fashioned the defending champion's third successive victory in the meet.

Men (final): Ernakulam bt Thiruvananthapuram 3-0 (K.A. Aneesh bt Aravind Sankar 15-11, 5-4; Alfred bt Gauthaman 15-8, 15-4; K.A. Aneesh & Deepak Amarnath bt Tariq Mohammed & Ayyappan Krishnan 15-7, 11-15, 15-5). Semifinals: Thiruvananthapuram bt Kollam 3-1 (Gauthaman bt Vineeth Krisnan 15-13, 15-11; K. Madhu lost to Pradeep Kumar 4-15, 8-15; Tariq Mohammed & Ayyappan Krishnan bt D. Rajeev & Pradeep Kumar 15-6, 15-7; Aravind Sankar bt Shibu 15-8, 15-9) Ernakulam bt Kozhikode 3-0 (Antony K. Jacob 8-15, 15-7, 15-3; K.A. Aneesh bt P. Anand 15-5, 15-6; K.A. Aneesh & Deepak Amarnath bt Arjun Prasad & Vineeth Manuel 15-13, 15-4). Quartefinals: Kozhikode bt Kasaragod 3-0.
