East Bengal posts win
KOLKATA,
AUG. 10.
Defending champion Kingfisher East Bengal missed chances aplenty but managed to hold on to an early lead and beat Wari AC 1-0 in a Calcutta Football League's Super Division encounter at home on Tuesday. The win fetched East Bengal full three points, helping it tally 17 points from seven matches and join Mohun Bagan on top of the league table.
The winning goal came in the fourth minute when Malswamtulunga nodded home a freekick taken by Tushar Rakshit. The margin could have been bigger for host, which missed a dozen chances and a penalty in the 26th minute. The spot kick fumble was committed by Brazilian Douglas da Silva, whose feeble attempt was saved by the Wari custodian Kalyan Lodh.
