MANGALORE, AUG. 10. The Dakshina Kannada District Congress has urged the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President, B. Janardhana Poojary, to act against party workers who indulged in anti-party activities in the recent elections to various panchayat bodies in the district. B. Sadananda Poonja, spokesperson of the DCC, told presspersons here on Monday that in Puttur Lata Ganesh Rao allegedly joined hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to come to power in Puttur Town Municipal Council elections. In Belthangady Town Panchayat two others had allegedly indulged in anti-party activity, he said. Strict action sould be taken against these people, he said. However in Ullal Town Panchayat the Congress had won the posts of President and Vice-President and all the members of the party stood united. Mr. Poonja said the DCC had appealed to the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, during his visit to the district recently to release Rs. 3 crores for repairing roads. The roads come under the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, under non-Plan expenditure. The DCC Vice-President, Kodijal Ibrahim; the Chief Whip of the Mangalore City Corporation, Mahabala Marla; and the Ullal Town Panchayat President, Dinakar Ullal, were present at the meet.
