NEW DELHI, AUG. 10. The Centre today decided to raise the minimum support price for paddy by Rs. 10 a quintal for the kharif crops of 2004-05 season. So, the MSP for the common variety of paddy would be Rs. 560 a quintal and for grade A Rs. 590 a quintal. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Union Cabinet's Committee on Economic Affairs. Announcing this, Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said the panel also decided to raise the MSP for Tur (Arahar) to Rs. 1,390, Moong and Urad to Rs. 1,410, groundnut in shell to Rs. 1,500, soyabean yellow to Rs. 1,000, soyabean black to Rs. 900, sunflower seed to Rs. 1,340, sesamum to Rs. 1,500 and nigerseed to Rs. 1,180 (all the prices are per quintal). The increase for Tur is for Rs. 30, moog and urad Rs. 40, groundnut-in-shell Rs. 100, soyabean yellow Rs. 70, soyabean black Rs. 60, sunflower seed Rs. 90, sesamum Rs. 15 and nigerseed Rs. 25.
H-4 cotton
Likewise, the MSP for the H-4 cotton variety has been increased to Rs. 1,960 and for the other varieties to Rs. 1,760, marking a raise of Rs. 35 for all the varieties over last year's price. Earlier, a meeting of the Union Cabinet decided to withdraw the coastal aquaculture authority bill, which is pending in the Rajya Sabha, and introduce a revised incorporating the various modifications suggested by the Parliamentary Standing Committee and other agencies concerned.
