NEW DELHI, AUG. 10. A hoarding praising the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, which has come up illegally on the Ajmeri Gate side of New Delhi railway station, has created a peculiar situation for both the railway authorities and the Delhi police. It was in mid-July this year that one M.S. Khan, who heads an organisation called Mughal Dynasty, put up a huge hoarding, hailing Ms. Gandhi as the "mother of secularism". It had come up on the roof of the building housing the ticket counters. However, the hoarding continued to remain there for over a week when a sub-inspector of the Government Railway Police (GRP), a unit of the Delhi police, made inquiries about its legality. The GRP personnel after finding that the hoarding had come up illegally got it removed from the rooftop and dumped it near the parking lot. When Mr. Khan got to know about it, he reportedly complained to the Police Commissioner, KK Paul, who in turn asked the area's Deputy Commissioner of Police to look into the matter. Meanwhile, the hoarding was again put up inside the station premises within a week, this time near a police picket outside the parking lot. And as the Delhi police await a reply from the railway authorities to its letter in this regard, the hoarding continues to openly flout all laid down norms.
