Ramkumar, Somasundar star for Chemplast

BANGALORE, AUG. 11. Left-arm spinner Ramkumar's five-wicket haul and opener Sujith Somasundar's unbeaten 80 powered Chemplast to an eight-wicket victory over Bihar CA in the MRF Trophy KSCA All India invitation tournament that commenced here on Wednesday.

Earlier, Bihar CA stumbled at the JIRS Ground as seamers L. Balaji (three for 53) and Tinnu Yohannan (two for 33) made early inroads. Ramkumar then stepped in and spun a web to skittle out Bihar for 151. The chase proved easy as Somasundar (80 n.o., 85b, 14x4, 1x6) guided the innings and the winning runs were pocketed in 29.5 overs.

In the other matches, opener Robin Uthappa's fiery 137 (157b, 22x4, 1x6) helped KSCA post 356 against Indian Airlines at the Chinnaswamy Stadium while Rohit Sharma's 120 (124b, 15x4) guided NCA to 435 against Air India at the IAF Ground.

Meanwhile, the match between defending champion Cricket Association of Bengal and Hyderabad CA was abandoned at the RWF Ground due to unfit pitch conditions. The match will now be played at the RSI Ground here on August 12 and 13.

The scores:

Bihar CA 151 in 58.3 overs (Santosh Lal 39, Madhusudan 34, Manish Kumar 26, Ramkumar five for 47, L. Balaji three for 53) lost to Chemplast 152 for two in 29.5 overs (Sujith Somasundar 80 n.o., S. Badrinath 32 n.o., Vikram Kumar 31).

KSCA 356 in 98.4 overs (Robin Uthappa 137, Stuart Binny 70, Nidhuvan 41, Pawan Gargi 27, Sandeep Sawal four for 117, I. Saxena three for 83) vs Indian Airlines.

NCA 435 in 99.1 overs (Rohit Sharma 120, Y. Gnaneswar Rao 85, Suresh Raina 54, Sunny Singh 49, Fiaz Fazal 48, Preetam Gandhe four for 106, Mandar Dalvi three for 107) vs Air India. — Our Sports Reporter
