This Day That Age
The personal palace of the Panchen Lama, situated on the banks of the Namchung river in Shigatse, collapsed a couple of days ago, burying nearly 200 persons, it was learnt in Kalimpong on August 11. A Chinese military barrack also tumbled down burying alive over 500 soldiers, including a few officers. The whole of Shigatse town is under flood water with the Namchung river overflowing. The Chinese authorities have ordered their troops at Lhasa to proceed immediately to the affected town. A flood relief committee has been formed under the presidentship of Gyalu Thondup, second brother of the Dalai Lama.
