CUDDAPAH, AUG. 12. The Project Director of DRDA and Velugu, R. Venugopala Rao, said on Thursday that it was targeted to disburse financial assistance of Rs. 89.32 crores to 17,000 beneficiaries in the district under various welfare schemes in the current financial year.
Coordinated approach
Addressing a convergence meeting with officials of various departments, Mr. Rao asked the officials to DRDA, Velugu, SC, ST, BC and Minority Corporations, Disabled Welfare, Industries and Khadi and Village Industries, Municipality and STEP Departments to work with coordination for extending loans and their recovery as per schedule. The District Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers of DRDA and Velugu were deputed as coordination officers for each mandal, he said. The officials and bankers would be imparted training at the mandal level, he added. The Additional Project Director of Velugu, N. Anil Kumar Reddy, said plans were formulated to develop all the villages in a mandal within three years by simultaneously taking up developmental programmes, at the rate of one-third of the villages in an year. Suggesting priority to the proposed model villages in the mandals, he said at least 50 per cent of the funds should be sanctioned to them.
Model villages
Mr. Venugopala Rao suggested identification of model villages in consultation with the Mandal Parishad Presidents, ZPTC members and bankers by this month end and identification of beneficiaries and verification of their assets from mid-September. He wanted priority to employment generation schemes. The Project Director said a separate recovery wing would be set up in DRDA with two assistant project officers, as bankers were complaining of poor repayment of loans in some villages and not evincing interest in loaning to those villages. He assured grant of incentives to officials achieving a good recovery rate and observed that engaging private persons for recovery was improper.
Loan recovery
The Executive Director of SC Corporation, G. Gurunathudu, assured to depute two deputy tahsildars for loan recovery in each of the three revenue divisions. He wanted the municipal officials' assistance for recoveries in Cuddapah and Proddatur towns. The general manager of District Industries Centre, Kuthubuddin, Velugu DPMs, A Padmaja, Noor Ahmed, and APOs, Kusuma Kumari, Usha Rani, Subrahmanyam and Khader Basha, also participated.
