Anantapur
By Our Staff Reporter
ANANTAPUR, AUG. 12. The Police Department is conducting service programmes for the poor in rural areas of the district as part of its efforts to get closer to people. Aided by philanthropists, the Department has undertaken programmes like distribution of rice and notebooks and conduct of medical camps and sports.
Plays staged
A cultural troupe of the Department has been conducting plays across the district to infuse confidence into distressed farmers and create awareness against superstition, anti-social elements and factionalism. The Superintendent of Police, Anil Kumar, and the OSD, V.L. Kalidas, have visited villages to supervise the programmes. The DIG of Anantapur Range, N. Jayarami Reddy, supervised a health camp conducted at Pandikunta in Vajrakarur mandal recently.
Notebooks distributed
The SP distributed notebooks and slates to children from poor families in 12 villages in Kanaganapalli mandal. Notebooks, slates and plates were distributed at Pandikunta. The Gandlapenta police distributed rice and redgram (dal) to 50 poor families. Cricket matches were conducted for young people from Peruru, Dubbarlapalli, Peruru Dam, Kothapalli and other villages in Ramagiri mandal recently. Meetings conducted at Sanapa, Palacharla, Bhoginepalli and Thogarakunta villages earlier this week met with a good response, with the District Collector and Joint Collector redressing grievances.
