Task forces to recover tax arrears

NEW DELHI, AUG. 12. With the Union Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram, banking heavily on recovery of tax arrears to meet his revenue targets, the Government today set up two task forces to recover the arrears.

On the direct tax side, the task force would be headed by the Member (Revenue) and would report to the Central Board of Direct Taxes.

On indirect taxes, the Chief Commissioner (Tax Arrear Recovery) would head the task force and report to the Member (Customs and Central Excise) of the Central Board of Excise and Customs.
