National science talent test on January 30

VISAKHAPATNAM, AUG. 12. The annual national and State-level science talent search examinations, conducted by the Unified Council for the benefit of students up to the plus-two level, will be held early next year.

In a statement, its regional coordinator for the State, V.K. Srinivasan, has said that the national test (NSTSE) will be held on January 30 and the State level test (SLSTSE) on February 6 (both Sundays).

Eligibility

While students of classes III to X and XI and XII (PCM and PCB) are eligible for taking the NSTSE, pupils of classes IV to X (both English and Telugu media) can sit for the SLSTSE.

The NSTSE is based on CBSE syllabus, but it is also suitable for those following ICSE/ISC and State Board syllabi. The SLSTSE is based only on the Andhra Pradesh State Board syllabus.

Both the examinations will have objective type questions only, and do not carry any negative marks (total marks 100). There will be separate question papers for each class. The duration of the test is 90 minutes.

Prizes

Each examinee will be given a merit/participation certificate. Twelve personal computers, 36 gold medals, 24 scholarships, 84 cash awards, 1,884 Britannica CD packs and 175 BMA's talent examination resource books will be up for grabs under the NSTSE, while cash awards, gold medals, mementos, Britannica Concise Encylopaedia-2004 edition CD packs and BMA's talent examination resource books will be given as prizes under the SLSTSE.

Besides, there are institutional awards for best performing and best participation schools and best teachers.
