HYDERABAD, AUG. 12. The Telugu Desam Party has asked the Government to cancel the pre-qualified bids called for all the irrigation projects proposed to be taken up at a whopping cost of Rs.46,000 crores and put in place a transparent plan by calling global tenders for each work.
Hasty action flayed
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, former Ministers and senior TDP leaders, M V Mysoora Reddy and K.Vidyadhar Rao, have described as "unprecedented" the action of the Government in calling pre-qualified bids for all the projects without even specifying the estimates, design and other details. Criticising the "hush-hush manner" and the haste with which the process is being implemented, they alleged that the normal approval system of 21 days for pre-qualified bids was reduced to seven. They said the new system would lead to formation of syndicates by bidders, escalation in the costs of the projects, misuse of public money, which would prove to be detrimental to the interests of the State as standards would be compromised.
Irregularities alleged
They accused the Government of not calling global tenders with the intention of benefiting just 10 companies. They also wanted the cancellation of tenders finalised in connection with Vellugallu project in Cuddapah district. At a separate press conference, G.Sukhender Reddy, ex-MP and M.Narsimloo and S.Venkateswar Rao, ex-MLAs, charged the Chief Minister, Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy, with deceiving the people of Nalgonda district yesterday by laying foundation stones for ongoing works, which were launched during the previous TDP regime.
