THENI, AUG.12 . The State Government has sanctioned Rs.60 lakhs to help Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe women to purchase agriculture land under the Special Land Purchase Scheme during current financial year. This was announced at a meeting of the Tamil Nadu Adi Dravida Welfare and Housing Development Corporation held at the Collectorate today. Addressing the meeting, the TAHDCO chairperson, V. Saroja, said the district administration would identify 120 beneficiaries for this scheme during this year. Each woman candidate was eligible to purchase either 2.5 acres of wetland or five acres of dry land. A sum of Rs.1 lakh would be given as loan and another Rs.1 lakh as subsidy by TAHDCO for irrigation, cattle rearing and for undertaking agriculture-based works. Special training would also be imparted to these women by agriculture and Horticulture departments. Besides, a sum of Rs.34 lakhs would be disbursed to 3,000 self-help groups under SHG economic development scheme during current financial year. Beneficiaries would get loan directly from banks or obtain revolving funds. There was no need for SHG members to pay initial amount for the loan up to Rs.2.5 lakhs. Similarly, 110 beneficiaries would get a loan of Rs.11 lakhs under individual loan scheme. Special vocational training would be imparted to 30 unemployed youths under self-employment scheme. The TAHDCO had received 19.58 lakhs for this purpose. About 45 youths were trained during last year. About 100 sanitary workers would be rehabilitated under sanitary workers rehabilitation scheme as the Government granted Rs. 33.45 lakhs for this project. On the whole, the district administration would disburse 149.45 lakhs to 6,956 beneficiaries through TAHDCO under various schemes during this year. The Project Officer, G. Muthu Meenal, MLAs R.D. Ganesan and S. Ramaraj, Rajya Sabha MP Thangathamizhselvan, the TAHDCO Manager, Muralidharan, the District Forest Officer, Anand Nayak, the District Revenue Officer, N. Perumal, and others spoke.
