VISAKHAPATNAM, AUG. 12. The Coastal Andhra Diabetic Association and Research Foundation will conduct a free medical camp at Bharadwaj Hospital in Seethammadhara on Saturday at 9 a.m. Informing this to reporters here on Thursday, the foundation chairman, N. Srinivasa Rao, said that free blood tests would also be conducted for the first 100 patients who report by 8 a.m. at the venue.
Doctors advice
Medical experts, including Dileep Kumar, K.V.G.K. Tilak and Muralidhar, would treat the patients free of cost and also educate the patients and their family members on the complications arising out of diabetes and dietary precautions. There was a need for the patient to know the calorific value of food consumed so that he could plan his diet accordingly and avoid complications. Dr. Tilak noted that the number of diabetics had increased from a mere one per cent to eight to 30 per cent in recent times and, of late, the disease "is equated with cardiac ailment.'' A diabetic would remain a diabetic for life as there was no cure and, therefore, he or she should take precautions on diet and do some physical exercise, he observed.
