Venkaiah dismisses Arjun's attack

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, AUG. 12. The Bharatiya Janata Party president, Venkaiah Naidu, today dismissed the attacks on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh by the Human Resource Development Minister, Arjun Singh, as "one-upmanship" to project himself as a "champion of pseudo-secularism."

Mr. Naidu said the RSS leadership did not need Mr. Singh's advice that the organisation should register itself as a political party rather than try to control the administration through appointment of its volunteers.

He asserted that the former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, was a "swayamsevak" and that was also true of the former Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, and the present Vice-President, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat.
