NEW DELHI, AUG. 12. Three persons have been arrested by the North-West Delhi police for allegedly shooting at and robbing a cashier at Azadpur Mandi in North-West Delhi on August 4. According to the police, the three accused were arrested from near a godown at Shalimar Bagh on Wednesday night following a brief exchange of fire. Those arrested have been identified as Haridwar alias Chacha, Babloo Passi alias Bhola and Subhash alias Sat Prakash. A country-made revolver from Haridwar's possession and knives from the other two were recovered. All the accused hail from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh. Interrogation revealed that Subhash, a mashakhor (big retailer) at Azadpur Mandi, had developed information about the movement of the victim Kishan Lal. Haridwar allegedly confessed to having shot at Mr. Lal from behind, while Babloo stabbed him after he collapsed. They had managed to escape with Rs. 2.9 lakhs, which was kept in the bag Mr. Lal was carrying. At the instance of the accused, the police have also recovered Rs. 15,500 in cash. While Haridwar, a vegetable vendor in the mandi for the past several years, has earlier been involved in heinous cases, Babloo and Subhash are first timers. The police are also looking for another accused, Rajan, also from Azamgarh, who was involved in the incident. Further investigations in the case are on.
