SFI activists stage protest

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, AUG. 12. Holding the private professional colleges responsible for the CET mess and the death of Pratibha, a student who committed suicide allegedly because she was not hopeful of securing a medical seat, representatives of the Students' Federation of India (SFI) staged a demonstration in front of Town Hall here on Thursday.

A large number of students from various colleges participated in the demonstration.

The representatives of the federation, led by K.S. Lakshmi, president of the State unit of federation, and R. Ramakrishna, secretary, demanded that Central legislation be brought in permitting the States to have control over private educational institutions.

They also demanded that R.L. Jalappa, MP and Chairman of the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMED-K), be arrested as, according to them, the consortium was responsible for the confusion regarding admission to professional courses and also the death of the girl.
