BANGALORE, AUG. 12. Residents panicked when a 300 kg underground chlorine cylinder of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board leaked near Malleswaram 18th Cross on Thursday. But the board's contractors plugged it and averted a major tragedy. The police diverted traffic from the area for about one and half hours as a precautionary measure. When mixed with the air, chlorine is a deadly agent and could even lead to death, according to experts. The chemical is harmless when mixed with water. Fire tenders were pressed into service as a precautionary measure.
