Nellore
By Our Staff Reporter
NELLORE, AUG. 13. The Nellore MLA, Anam Vivekananda Reddy, has assured people that sincere efforts will be made for constructing a summer storage tank for preserving drinking water for the town. Addressing a press conference here on Friday, he conceded that the proposal had been hanging fire for the last few years, but now the time had come to give it a concrete shape. The necessary estimates were being prepared to be forwarded to Central and State Governments.
Encroachments
He said about 400 acres of land available in Nellore tank area would be sufficient to build the summer storage tank, but there was a need to clear encroachments. Mr. Reddy said weaker sections in and around Irukalala Parameswari temple area would be provided with house sites in an extent of 11 acres of land, with basic facilities. The remaining area in Nellore tank would be developed into a park with boating and water sports facilities. The MLA alleged that the municipality was lax in supplying water and claimed that as against the normal requirement of 1.70 crore gallons of water per day, 70 lakh gallons of water was being supplied.
