HYDERABAD, AUG. 13. The Centre for Good Governance (CGG) is assisting the Government of India in conducting a study in civil service reforms in the country. It has also been entrusted a prestigious study in association with the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) in response to the Prime Minister's call for evolving a code for good governance in the country. This was stated at a meeting of the CGG's steering committee held under the chairmanship of the Finance Minister, K. Rosaiah, here on Thursday. Further, the CGG is involved in the preparation of an agenda for good governance for the Inter-State Council meeting of Chief Ministers. Endorsing the CGG's work plan, the steering committee decided that priority would be given to simplify processes and procedures in the Government with focus on finance, agriculture, welfare, rural development, health and municipal administration departments.
Support sought
The Finance Minister requested Britain's Department for International Development (DFID) to support the second phase of the CGG programme too. Expressing willingness to do so, the DFID representative, Jaya Singh Verma, said the modalities of the next phase would be worked out by an appraisal mission. Home Minister K. Jana Reddy in a message said the CGG should conduct a study linking placements of police officers to their performance so that objectivity and transparency could be ensured in their transfers. The Minister for Major Irrigation, Ponnala Laxmaiah, addressed the meeting.
