RAMPUR (HIMACHAL), AUG. 13 . The engineers of the Nathpa Jhakri project and the people of 56 villages living on the banks of the Sutlej are vigilant but much relaxed today. Conflicting reports on impending flooding of the Pareechu river in Tibet and the consequent danger to Rampur downstream have upset them and they are not able to make up their minds about evacuation. "We are upset with the rumours and misinformation, the authorities are not able to tell us the exact information, it is highly perturbing," said Bhim Dev, a resident of Rampur. Y.N. Apparao, Chairman of the Nathpa Jhakri Project, said there was no official confirmation of any Chinese blasts to break the artificial lake. Mr. Rao, who undertook an aerial survey on Thursday on Indian territory to see the water level at the confluence of the Spiti and Sutlej rivers, said there was no excess or change in the water level. Also, adequate precautions had been taken for disaster management all along the Sutlej. He claimed that no amount of flooding could harm the Nathpa Dam.
