No foul play, says Minister
By Our Staff Reporter
WARANGAL,
AUG. 13.
The Minister for Major and Minor Irrigation, Ponnala Laxmaiah, on Friday refuted allegations that certain contractors were being favoured in awarding irrigation contracts.
Speaking to reporters here, he said no contract was awarded to any firm so far. "We have only listed out pre-qualified contractors and a list of 12 companies has been prepared. Total transparency is ensured in awarding contracts," he maintained.
Taking a dig at the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) for crying foul, Mr. Laxmaiah alleged that the Chandrababu Government had called only two firms to take up the Devadula works. "Contrary to that we have short listed 12," he said.
Loan from Austria
The Minister said that the Austrian Government had sanctioned Rs. 3,400 crores soft loan for the Godavari lift irrigation scheme and the Dummugudem hydropower project.
Land acquisition process for both the projects would be completed by the end of September. About 1,300 acres of land would be acquired by paying Rs. 12 crores compensation, he said.
