Work to revive defunct units, says Suresh Reddy

HYDERABAD, AUG. 13. The Speaker, K.R. Suresh Reddy, has called upon members of the Assembly Committee on Public Undertakings to work for restructuring and revival of defunct units and review the action taken reports (ATRs) submitted by the previous committee.

Speaking at the first meeting of the committee, Mr. Suresh Reddy advised members to tour other States to know the functioning of similar panels there.

52 PSUs in State

The Chairman of the committee, N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, said there were 52 public sector undertakings (PSUs) in the State, of which 49 were Government companies and three others statutory companies.

He pointed out that 39 Government companies were working with a capital of Rs.76.50 crores and 18 others were non-working.

Panel's responsibility

Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy said the audited accounts of many companies had not been submitted and the committee's responsibility was to ensure that the reports were sent regularly.

The Accountant-General (Audit-II), Sudarshana Talapatra, explained that many audit paras were pending for discussion and they needed priority review basis.

The committee members -- G.S.S. Sivaji, K.Surekha, Lingaiah and G. Muddukrishnama Naidu - attended.
