Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, AUG.14. The CPI (M) has urged the Union Health Ministry to grant more funds to the Centrally administered JIPMER (Jawaharlal Institute of Post-graduate Medical Education and Research) in Pondicherry so that the poor would be benefited. Addressing a press conference here today the secretary of the party. T. Murugan, said that there was a reported move on the part of the Union Health Ministry to convert JIPMER now administered by the Directorate General of Health Services into an autonomous institution. This would be a step in the wrong direction. Mr.Murugan recalled how in the past when a move was made in this regard was resisted successfully by the CPI (M) and ultimately the then government at the Centre gave up the proposal.
