TDP councillor, brother killed

ANANTAPUR, AUG. 14. A TDP councillor and his brother were hacked to death allegedly by their Congress rivals at Muchalageri Circle in the Old Town here today. Three persons, who were reportedly involved in the killing, were nabbed.

A councillor of the Anantapur Municipal Council, Bulle Krishnaiah alias Pavurala Krishna (41), and his brother -- whose wife is also a TDP councillor -- Nagaraju alias Dubba Raju (33), were going in a jeep when their vehicle was intercepted by seven jeep-borne assailants. The assailants hurled crude bombs at the brothers.

The Anantapur Range DIG, N. Jayarami Reddy, and the Superintendent of Police, Anil Kumar, told reporters that Krishna, Nagaraju and another person were travelling in the vehicle when they were attacked. The assailants, after hurling crude bombs on the vehicle, chased the duo and hacked them to death.

Passerby injured

A passerby was also injured. He was rushed to the general hospital. The police, who rushed to the scene following the explosions, chased and caught three alleged attackers -- Jakki Murali of Narpala, Paleti Adinarayana of Kummaravandlapalli, and Vadde Venkataramudu of Pulagampalli of Kadiri mandal. A revolver, five live rounds and sickles were seized.

Dharna staged

District leaders of the TDP staged a dharna in front of the camp office of the Superintendent of Police, demanding the suspension of a top police official, alleging his involvement.
