Bush Sr. opens Olympic softball tourney
ATHENS,
AUG. 14.
Former U.S. President George Bush borrowed a glove and dusted off his fastball on Saturday at the Olympics. Bush threw out the ceremonial first pitch before Australia played Japan in the opening game of the eight-team softball tournament.
After being introduced and getting a warm ovation from the crowd at Helliniko Sports Complex, Bush went to the mound and playfully signaled which pitch he was going to throw to Japanese catcher Noriko Yamaji.
The 80-year-old left-hander then wound up and lobbed a pitch into Yamaji.
