CHENNAI, AUG. 14. The Hindu Colony Chellamal Vidyalaya at Nanganallur recently opened a nook for numbers on their premises, and called it the "Pie Pavilion". According to principal, V. Venkatachalam, the numbers of honour in this newly inaugurated maths lab are "Pi" (3.14159265...) and "e" (2.7182818284...) which is a transcendental number. Nine hundred digits of these "endless numbers" are prominently displayed on a specially designed iron ring on the ceiling. Retired mathematics professors K. Srinivasa Rao and Geetha Srinivasa Rao and K.S. Vijayalakshmi of PSBB schools were the guests of honour on the occasion. According to the principal, the `mathematics lab' has work sheets for students from class III to class X, and is equipped with models, charts and a mini-library that will make learning maths "much more joyful."
