Kavita Lankesh
BANGALORE, AUG. 14. Kavita Lankesh, whose "Preethi Prema Pranaya," won the Swarna Kamal for best regional film in Kannada, is happy that a movie in the "popular format" had secured the award. She had produced and directed the film. Reacting to the announcement made in New Delhi, Ms. Kavita Lankesh said the film industry and the people of the State had appreciated the film. And she was happy that a "commercial film" too had "reached wide" and secured the award. It was a social subject that was difficult to handle (the story is about an elderly man, having grown up children, falling in love with an elderly woman having a grown up daughter). She said the credit should go to the whole team and me. "But without Anant Nag (the lead actor) it would have been something else, and even Bharathi (the lead actress)," she said. Her earlier film, "Deviri" had won the International Critics' Award and a national award for best debut film as director. "Bimba," another film, won three State awards. Ms. Kavita Lankesh said she would start shooting for her next film based on the "Man-eater of Malgudi" of R.K. Narayan by November. The film would be in Hindi. Ms. Lankesh said she did not expect the Swarana Kamal for "Preethi Prema Pranaya," but she did nurse hopes of getting it. The film did well at the box office.
