Four held for shoplifting

KOCHI, AUG. 15. Four persons were arrested by the police today on charges of shoplifting.

The four have been identified by the police as Unni (36), (son of Raghava Menon, Kandayath House, Mambra, Mala), Xavier (38), (son of Paily, Puthenpeedikayil Veettil, Anjeri, Thrissur), Joseph (25), (son of Varghese of Chullikkal House, Athani), and Radhakrishnan (34), son of Chakkan of Padannayil House in Tirur. According to the police, they are part of a 40-member gang involved in stealing goods from shops in Coimbatore, Bangalore, Chennai and other places. The four were picked up on M.G. Road, near Parthas Textiles.

All four were taken to the first class magistrate's court and were remanded for 15 days.

Ganja seized

The city police today seized 20 kg of ganja from the Patna-Ernakulam Express that arrived here in the evening. The ganja worth Rs. 2 lakhs was found in two gunny bags that were hidden under the seat of a compartment. No arrest has been made.
