Bidar

BIDAR, AUG. 15. The Minister for Animal Husbandry and Wakf, Mirajuddin Patel, said in his message to the people on the occasion of Independence Day here on Sunday that Bidar would be developed into a model district. In a note sent from a hospital in Bangalore, where he is recovering from a heart attack, Mr. Patel said that all development programmes would be implemented for the benefit of the people. Mr. Patel's message was read out by the Chief Accounts Officer of the zilla panchayat, Ravi Kamalapurkar. Mr. Patel said that special efforts would be made to promote horticulture in Bidar. The Deputy Commissioner, T.K. Anil Kumar, who hoisted the national flag, said that Bidar and Basavakalyan had been identified for the comprehensive development of towns in backward areas under the schemes of the Asian Development Bank. A team from the bank would be visiting the district soon for a preliminary inspection, he added.
Development schemes
He said that around Rs. 47 lakhs has been distributed as support fund under the National Seed Development Scheme and the Oil Seed Development Scheme. Around 70,000 farmers had benefited form the crop insurance scheme, he said.
