PONDICHERRY, AUG. 15. A weeklong art workshop by four specially-abled artists was inaugurated by the Villupuram Collector, Ka Balachandran, at the Ananya Art Gallery at Mukti Centre in Kottakupam near here yesterday. Madhuri Kapur, afflicted with cerebral palsy, Sunitha Thrippanikkara and Ganesh Kumar, both afflicted by polio, and Sheela, who lost her hands in an accident, are participating in the `Foot and Mouth artists' workshop to be held till August 21. Mr. Balachandran promised all help from the Villupuram district administration for physically challenged persons of Mukti and added that if Mukti was interested in forming self-help groups, he would help sanction loans for them. The Villupuram DIG, Sanjay Arora, said ``our society should be attuned to the problems of the disabled and accept them as they are.'' The Mukti founder, Meena Dadha, said in September a multi-cuisine restaurant would be opened on the premises of the organisation and the proceeds would be used for the calliper-making unit. The former MP, Heerachand, and the Superintending Engineer, TNEB, Villupuram, R. Kandaswamy, spoke.
