BANGALORE, AUG. 15. The Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, has said that a comprehensive national education policy and a Central legislation will help resolve the confusion regarding admissions to professional courses in the State. In his address after hoisting the national flag on the occasion of Independence Day, Mr. Dharam Singh said: "We have made an appeal to the Union Government and I am hoping that it comes out with a legislation which addresses the concerns of students and parents."
Good monsoon
The Chief Minister expressed happiness over the good monsoon which had filled the major reservoirs such as Alamatti, Narayanapur, Krishnarajasagar, and Harangi. The farmers, who were severely hit by drought for the past three years, were now busy sowing in all the districts, he said. Mr. Dharam Singh said the Government would implement the D.M. Nanjundappa Committee Report for removal of regional imbalances in phases. Referring to the admission of students through the Common Entrance Test, Mr. Dharam Singh said the Government had come out with a legislation on 75:25 seat-sharing in professional courses. The fees had been fixed on the directions of the Supreme Court. But the Government had decided to pay the fees of meritorious students from poor families. The Government would not hesitate to take stern action against professional colleges which failed to adhere to the new law.
