11,835 houses to be built in Kolar

KOLAR, AUG. 15. K. Srinivasa Gowda, Agriculture Minister, said today that 11,835 houses would be constructed under the Ambedkar, Indira Awaz, and Ashraya housing schemes at an estimated cost of Rs. 24 crore in Kolar district during this financial year.

Addressing presspersons here, the Minister said these schemes were being implemented through taluk panchayats to ensure transparency. Under the Swarna Jayanti Rozgar Yojana, Rs. 8. 74 crores had been earmarked for the district. A sum of Rs. 5.1 crores had been distributed among gram panchayats in the district.

Grants

Referring to grants to taluk panchayats, the Minister said the Government had released Rs. 3 crores as the first instalment to them. A sum of Rs. 2.24 crores more would be released soon.

Stating that there was no dearth of funds for taking up drinking water projects, Mr. Srinivasa Gowda that the Government had instructed the district administration to monitor the situation in the district and to take steps to ease the drinking water shortage in the affected areas.

Stating that though the district received good rainfall in the past two months, he said that it was scanty this month.

K.H. Muniyappa, Union Minister of State for Road Transport, K.V. Narayanaswamy, Kolar Zilla Panchayat President, S.N. Bise Gowda, Chairman State Small Industries Corporation, and Nagaiah and Krishnappa Kodipalya, deputy secretaries of the panchayat, were present.

`Inculcate patriotism'

Earlier, Mr. Srinivasa Gowda unfurled the tricolour at the Sir M.V. Stadium.

Speaking on the occasion, he underlined the importance of inculcating patriotism among children.

National integrity should be protected and divisive forces should be dealt with a firm hand, he added.
