CPI threatens stir over Godavari waters issue

KHAMMAM Aug. 16. The Communist Party of India(CPI) and the Andhra Pradesh Ryothu Sangham on Monday threatened to launch a stir if the Government failed to take the Godavari waters issue seriously. The ryothu Sangham leaders and the CPI district unit leaders organised a sadassu on irrigation needs at Kumarigudem village on the banks of Godavari (near Dummugudem barrage) today.

Speaking n the occasion, the Andhra Pradesh Ryothu Sangham State president and CPI leader, T. V. Chowdhury, said that the State could no longer afford allow the Godavari waters to flow waste. The utilisation of Godavari waters would be the ultimate solution for all the ills of Telangana region. He said the Dummugudem project should be shaped into a multi-purpose project.

The CPI leader, Payam Venkateswarlu threatened to go on a fast unto death of the project proposed at Dummugudem was delayed further. He said the utilisation of the river water should be debated by all political parties so as to mount pressure on the Government.
