VISAKHAPATNAM, AUG. 16. The Khadi Consumers' Welfare Association has asked the Minister for Municipal Administration, Koneru Ranga Rao, to take action against the former Municipal Commissioner, Navin Mittal, for `insulting' Gandhiji on January 30. In a petition on Monday, the association president and Congress leader, S. Gopal, said that Mr. Mittal damaged the mike set and `physically attacked' a shamiana company worker when he was putting up a tent in front of the VMC building after obtaining police permission for observing Gandhi Vardhanti. ``We organised a dharna on that day and Mr. Mittal had offered an apology to the Father of the Nation (not to the injured worker)," he said in the complaint. Mr. Gopal asked the Minister to order an inquiry into the incident, direct the local police to register a case as per law and take remedial measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
