VISAKHAPATNAM, AUG. 16. The police on Monday prevented a person, Koilada Dasavataram, from setting himself on fire at the Collectorate here and took him away to the police station. Dasavataram had threatened that he would commit suicide along with members of his family if his job in the Military Engineering Service (MES) was not restored. He was among the 200 employees removed in 1981. The MES Karmik Union contested the decision in court in 1984 and after 10 years, received orders in its favour. The jobs of the 200 workers were restored but Dasavataram was not recalled. His pleas with the management and the trade union failed and he came to know that at the time of submitting the list of employees to be recalled, his name was deleted and another person was included in his place. Dasavataram had sent representations to the President, the Prime Minister, the Chief Minister and the Collector but to no avail.
