dated August 18, 1954: National Plan Loan

A fervent appeal to all classes of people and institutions in the country, princes, wealthier classes, banks, insurance companies and business houses and also the workers to subscribe to the National Plan Loan to their utmost was made by the Finance Minister, Mr. C.D. Deshmukh, in New Delhi on August 16. He said the 3 ½ per cent National Plan Loan was floated on April 19 and, till the end of July, Rs.125 crores had been collected. It was floated not for testing the theory put forward by some optimists that there was unlimited surplus of money lying idle in the country only waiting to be tapped, but for finding out whether the people of this country would come forward to undertake the burden of improving their own lot. Mr. Deshmukh said he was glad that persons of all levels of income had come forward to subscribe to the loan.
