KANNUR, AUG. 17. Four doctors, P.K. Gangadharan Nair, A.K. Jayachandran, C. Narendran and Manoj Narayanan, who were suspended from the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Kannur branch by the State committee on disciplinary grounds, today alleged that the action against them was against the provisions of the association's bylaws and they would question it in the court. Talking to mediapresons here, the suspended doctors said that the action against them was in response to their legally questioning the branch committee's decision to organise an installation function on May 25 before convening a general body meeting as demanded by 50 members in a signed memorandum. The court had issued a stay on the function. Subsequently, the IMA State president and the secretary had met them and the district office-bearers separately in what appeared to be a conciliatory effort, they said. However, they were suspended for three months, the doctors alleged. The doctors said that they had been branded rebels after they questioned the State leadership over the irregularities in the election and the purchase of land in front of the IMA building in Thiruvananthapuram.
