TIRUNELVELI, AUG. 17. K. Sridhara, Chief General Manager, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, Tamil Nadu Circle, today presented Sanchar Seva Padak and Bharat Sanchar Sarathy Awards for 2003 - 2004 to eight employees. While K. Ananthanarayanan, Deputy General Manager (Planning), Tirunelveli, S. Sankaran, Sub-Divisional Engineer, Second-Line Maintenance (Switching), and P. Natarajan, Junior Telecom Officer, Palayamkottai, received the Sanchar Seva Padaks, M. Mary Jothi, Senior Telephone Supervisor, Tenkasi, M. Sivaraman, Section Supervisor, Puliyangudi, S. Paramasivan, Section Supervisor, P. Ilango, Telecom Technical Assistant, Tiruneveli, and M. David, Telecom Mechanic, Ambasamudhram, were honoured with the Bharat Sanchar Sarathy Awards. The award carries a medal, a citation, a shawl and cash. Mr. Sridhara said that the BSNL would add 8.50 lakh more mobile phone connections in the State before the end of this fiscal year, to maintain its superiority over the private players. Besides 35 transmission towers in the district, the BSNL planned to add 73 more towers to bring every part of the district under the Cell One coverage. "When we augment our capacity and infrastructure, the BSNL will be right on the top over others," he said hinting that Wireless in Local Loop, a powerful device within 25 km, would be introduced in the district. Mr. Sridhara appealed to the BSNL employees to work overtime to find new customers for the Sancharnet, which now has 7,000-odd subscribers. He said the Tirunelveli Telecom District should strive to achieve the lowest fault rate in the State. V. Raju, General Manager, Tirunelveli Telecom District, appealed to the employees to work hard to get the `Best Secondary Switching Area in the Country' award for the second time, The Tiruneveli SSA bagged the award in 1999 - 2000.
