`Withhold decision to implement Belur Declaration'
By Our Staff Correspondent
TUMKUR,
AUG. 17.
The Tumkur-based Council for Customer Awareness Rights and Education (C-CARE) has urged the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, to put on hold the decision to implement the "Belur Declaration'' adopted during the State-level panchayat raj convention on January 23.
In a letter, the Vice-President of C-CARE, P. Sadashivaiah, said that during the convention it was declared that gram panchayats would be empowered to implement and maintain drinking water projects.
Urging Mr. Singh to withhold this proposal, Mr. Sadashivaiah said the previous Government decided to withhold it after considering its pros and cons. Mr. Sadashivaiah said some vested interests had been trying to implement the proposal ignoring the decision of the previous Government.
