CAB enters quarterfinals

BANGALORE, AUG. 17. Defending champion Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) topped `B' Zone and qualified for the quarterfinals of the MRF Trophy KSCA all-India invitation tournament in progress here on Tuesday. CAB notched up its second successive victory as off-spinner Sourashish Lahiri's five-wicket haul helped the team defeat ONGC by 19 runs at the JIRS Ground.

CAB topped `B' Zone with four points. Meanwhile ONGC also qualified for the quarterfinals by emerging second in the Zone with two points.

The scores:

Assam CA 259 lost to KSCA XI 263 for six in 77.3 overs (Stuart Binny 86, Robin Uthappa 56, Bharath Chipli 48, Arlen Konwar three for 93).

CAB 270 bt ONGC 251(inclusive of 20 penalty runs) in 71 overs (Mithun Manhas 51, Gagan Khoda 50, Ajay Ratra 40, Amit Sharma 30, Sourashish Lahiri five for 69, Ranadeb Bose three for 42).

Chemplast 408 for seven in 100 overs (P. Mallik 101, Sreekumar Nair 54, B. Akhil three for 79) bt Associated Bank 229 in 78.3 overs (Pankaj Dharmani 68 not out, Krishna Kumar 32, M.P. Sourab 30, Sreekumar Nair four for 73, D. Vasu three for 63).

Air India 252 lost to Canara Bank 253 for five in 69.5 overs (Deepak Chougule 98 not out, G.K. Anil Kumar 68, C. Raghu 30).
