CHENNAI, AUG. 17. Bihar's splendid recovery culminated in a remarkable four-wicket triumph over Maharashtra with four balls to spare in what was the closest finish among the five first round league matches that ended on Tuesday in the Sahara-Buchi Babu all India invitation cricket tournament.
Bihar had a 121-run first-innings deficit, but came back after bowling Maharashtra out for 71 on Monday. Resolute batting from Subrata Ghosh (44), C.M. Jha (54) and Mohit Goel (36) laid the base for Bihar's chase of 193 for a win, before a photo finish provided an exciting end.
At SRMC ground: Maharashtra 273 and 71 lost to Bihar 152 and 193 for six in 44.2 overs (Subrata Ghosh 44, C.M. Jha 54, Digambar Maghmare three for 69). Pts: Bihar 8, Maharashtra 0.
At ICL-Guru Nanak ground: TNCA President's XI 301 for nine and 213 for seven in 45 overs (Sadagopan Ramesh 82, Badri Attavar 61 retd. hurt) beat IOC 239 and 221 in 39.2 overs (Mithun Beerala 50, S.R. Ganesh Kumar four for 63). Pts: TNCA President's XI 8, IOC 0.
