NEW DELHI, AUG. 17. India said today that China had been providing "most useful" data to deal with the artificial lake created in Tibet. In an apparent response to reports in a section of the press, the External Affairs Ministry spokesman said the Indian Embassy in Beijing had been receiving inputs from the Chinese side on a regular basis. "It may also be noted that the Chinese authorities have stationed a technical team in the close vicinity of the area where the landslides have occurred leading to the formation of the artificial dam and lake. We have been given to understand by the Chinese side that while their personnel have not been able to reach the exact location of the dam/lake due to continuing landslides and unstable conditions, they are keeping the situation under observation from a distance of about 500 metres and sharing information with us on that basis. We appreciate the cooperation extended by the Chinese Government in this regard," the spokesman added.
