NEW DELHI, AUG. 17. The Special Cell of the Delhi Police yesterday gunned down an alleged Lashkar-e-Toiba militant in an encounter at Dwarka in South-West Delhi tonight. A .30-bore Chinese pistol was recovered. According to the Joint Commissioner of Police, Karnal Singh, the Special Cell had information about a Lashkar module planning to carry out a `fidayeen' attack. Investigations revealed that one of the terrorists, Vicky alias Abid, would come to a cyber café in Dwarka Sector VI. Sleuths of the Special Cell, led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Rajbir Singh, laid a trap and saw the suspect coming out of the cyber café around 10 p.m. He was starting his motorcycle when the police team challenged him. The suspect abandoned the motorcycle and ran towards the DDA flats, most of which are empty. At that time, there was no electricity in the area due to power failure. In the exchange of fire, the militant was injured and rushed to hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. Mr. Karnal Singh said the militant was a Pakistani national.
