National integration camp

NEW DELHI AUG. 17. The Karnal MP, Arvind Sharma, has called upon the youth to build a strong and modern India. Speaking at the national integration camp and cultural festival being organised by the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan at Alipur here from August 13 to 21, he also paid rich tributes to the former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi. Youths from 21 States from across the country are participating the 10-day festival.

Minister visits power centre

NEW DELHI AUG. 17. The Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office, Prithviraj Chavan, visited the Northern Regional Load Dispatch Centre of the Power Grid of India to take a look at its functioning on Tuesday.

Speaking at the function, the Minister said that he was impressed with the way the Power Grid has been able to operate and manage the complex grid system with full security and reliability. He also emphasised that the Power Grid had set a good example that a dedicated set of public sector undertaking officers and employees could create a very successful business which was an important chain in setting up and maintaining the Indian electricity industry.

Book release function

NEW DELHI AUG 17. The Living Treasure, a non-government organisation working in the area of propagating the message of Gurbani, organised a book release-cum-seminar function at Kamani Auditorium here on Independence Day.

A book titled ``Jiwan Jach Da Khazana'' which is an interpretation of the Gurbani in a very simple manner was released. The book gives a chance to the common man to practice what has been suggested in the Gurbani, said officials.

According to officials of the Living Treasure, this year was even more significant being the 400-birth anniversary of Guru Granth Sahib.

Independence Day function

NEW DELHI AUG. 17. Renowned orthopaedic surgeon and the Director of St. Stephen's Hospital, Mathew Verghese, was the chief guest at the Independence Day function organised by the Ekta Vihar Cooperative Group Housing Society Limited (EKCGHS) here this past Sunday. Dr. Verghese -- who hoisted the National Tricolour -- emphasised the importance of looking after the needs of the handicapped and the poor people. The Congress MLA from Mandawali, Meera Bhardwaj, presided over the function. The EKCGHS President, K. Srinivasan, welcomed the chief guest on the occasion.
