K.K. Sareen has been elected chairman of the Bar Council of Delhi. Mr. Sareen got 15 of the 26 votes polled while his rival, B.S. Rana, received 11, a release by the Council said. Rana Parween Siddiqui was elected vice-chairman of the statutory body defeating her lone rival, Ram Kanwal Kochar, by four votes.
Jugdev was elected as a representative of the Bar Council of Delhi to the Bar Council of India defeating Jatan Singh by eight votes.
The elections to these posts were held this past Monday, while elections for choosing 25 members to the Bar Council of Delhi were held in September 2003. However, the votes were counted recently, as there was a stay on it by the Delhi High Court following disputes among the lawyers.
